Radio station to honor Newark mayor

A Plainfield radio station is hosting a brunch Saturday to honor outgoing Newark mayor Sharpe James and New York civil rights activist Alton Henry Maddox Jr., a former lawyer.

Both James and Maddox are scheduled to attend, said the Rev. Rick Taylor, former Plainfield mayor and a radio host at Harvest Radio, WKMB AM 1070. Speakers at the brunch will talk about the "rich talents" within Plainfield's borders, according to a press release.

The event will be broadcast over the airwaves and benefit the development of educational programs at the station, Taylor said.

Tickets to the 12:30 p.m. brunch at Blackberry's Catering and Family Restaurant in Plainfield are $25 and can be purchased by calling (908) 753-5087 or (908) 315-3653.
